The Canton Tower Lighted up to Celebrate the Opening Ceremony of the Fourth Member Representative Assembly of Guangdong Fashion Designers Association and the Guangdong Fashion Week Spring 2016

On the afternoon of March 20, The Fourth Member Representative Assembly of Guangdong Fashion Designers Association was held in Guangzhou, where more than 150 qualified voters, including the vice president, the directors and the members of the association, attended the assembly. The assembly began with chairman Liu Yang’s work report on behalf of the third session of the council, in which Liu Yang reviewed the development conditions of the industry in the past four years and the work of the third session of council. According to Liu Yang, with the development of the clothing industry in Guangdong Province, more segmented and more professional requirements on talents are proposed, and there is a very big talent gap for professionals, such as buyers, fabrics designers, accessories designers, color collocation designers and graphic designers. In particular, “Custom-made” has become a hot word in the current apparel industry, which drives need for compound talents of a coordinated process from cutting out garments, picking models, selecting materials, pattern making, fabricating sample clothes to fitting, customer service, etc. However, compound custom service personnel who understand design, master pattern making and fabrication are currently very scarce in the market, which will be an important direction for talent cultivation in the next stage.

Liu Yang also pointed out in the report that over the past four years, the self-construction of Guangdong Fashion Designers Association has grown fast, with various functions of permanent bodies of the association increasingly improved, systems gradually established and perfected and team members growing. In addition, under the strong support of the relevant departments and in close cooperation with the general membership units, in-depth and meticulous work in enhancing soft power of the garment industry and improving the self-construction of the association has been done according to the industry characteristics for the interest of the industry, which has been highly accepted by the society and the industry.

In the end, on behalf of all colleagues of the Guangdong clothing design industry, Liu Yang expressed the highest respect and heartfelt thanks to the old entrepreneurs and the old comrades who had contributed youth and sweat to the development of the industry; he expressed ardent hope to the new generation of professionals, members of the designers association. The representatives present at the meeting recognized the above report with warm applause. Subsequently, the fourth session of the first council was held, which approved by voting a list of candidates, including the new executive president, the new executive vice president, the new vice president, the new senior adviser, the new secretary general, the new assistant to the president and the new deputy secretary general. Then president Ji Wenbo declared that Mr. Liu Yang would serve as honorary life president of Guangdong Fashion Designers Association in honor of Mr. Liu Yang’s great contribution to the Guangdong garment industry! Mr. Liu Yang spent 12 years in 3 sessions in leadership positions. So his loyal spirit of leading by example touched everyone present! To contribute to Guangdong fashion construction and promote the development of the clothing design industry is a creed always kept in Mr. Liu Yang’s mind. It is this endeavor that lays foundation for more far-reaching influence of Guangdong’s clothing design industry!

On the evening of March 20, the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Fashion Week Spring 2016 was held with lighting activities on Guangzhou’s water landmark – “Magic Water Miracle” Pearl River Cruise. On that night, led by the air landmark in Guangzhou - Canton Tower, Guangzhou’s various fashion landmarks, including Grandview Plaza, Victoria Plaza, China Plaza, Paso Plaza, Guangzhou Liuhua Exhibition & Trading Center, Guangzhou Textile Trading Park, Guangzhou White Horse Clothing Wholesale Market, Guangzhou Hongmian International Fashion Mall, Guangzhou Yima Clothing Wholesale Plaza, Friendship Pants Mall and Guangdong Fashion Jewelry Mall lighted up in synchronization for the opening ceremony of the Guangdong Fashion Week Spring 2016!

Liu Yang Acted as the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee of the “GET WOW First E-Fashion Design Contest”

The opening ceremony of “GET WOW First E-fashion Design Contest” was held in the west coast of Qingdao, where Liu Yang, vice chairman of China Fashion Designers Association, served as chairman of the evaluation committee of the “GET WOW First E-fashion Design Contest”. The members of the evaluation committee included Li Xiaoyan (winner of China Best Design Award), Pan Yiliang (winner of China Best Design Award), Liu Wei (winner of China Best Design Award), Zhang Yichao (one of China’s Top 10 Designers), Dong huaiguang (one of China’s Top 10 Designers) and Mao Lihui (famous fashion critic).

The contest, which was jointly held by Fashion Runway Show APP (a global fashion brand design operating platform) and Oriental Fashion Center (an Asiawide experience creative fashion design center), spent 2 months from auditions to the selection of top 10 designers. Through three creation processes, 3200 contestants received professional judgment from 10 professional judges, 10 media judges, 10 commercial judges and underwent various tests, such as popular votes, production of small videos and submission of design works.

Mr. Liu Yang, who is very supportive for Oriental Fashion Center’s mining and cultivation of talented costume design stars, believes that today’s designers compete not only on their design talent but also on their abilities in design and commercial transformation. In his in-depth cooperation with Oriental Fashion Center, he positively responds to the Oriental Fashion Center by integrating all resources to support the development of cutting-edge designers, in an effort to create a piece of fertile soil in favor of the development of designers.

The 16th “Humen Cup” International Youth Design Contest (Women’s Wear) Ends Successfully

On the evening of November 21, 2015, the final of the 16th “Humen Cup” International Youth Design Contest (Women’s Wear) with the theme of “Limitless Innovation”, a major part of this clothing trade fair, was held in the performance hall of the main venue of this fair. After intense competition, Zeng Zifeng, No. 6 Player from Hong Kong, won the gold prize. Pan Xinchao (member of standing municipal Party committee and minister of Propaganda Department of Dongguan), Qu Hongqi (deputy secretary and head of Humen Town), Jiang Hengjie (adviser of China National Garment Association), Liu Yueping (president of Guangdong Association of Garment and Garment Article Industry), Ding Ning (executive vice president of Guangdong Fashion Designers Association) and some other leaders attended the pageant and granted medals to the winners.

With 16 sessions held already, this contest has won wide recognition of the clothing industry by virtue of its international, authoritative and fashionable features as one of the most influential international clothing design contests at home and abroad. To embody the authoritativeness of this contest, many well-known judges were invited to the final of this contest, including Liu Yang (vice president of China Fashion Association and president of Guangdong Fashion Designers Association), Li Dangqi (president of China Fashion Association and professor of Academy of Arts & Design of Tsinghua University), Ji Wenbo (vice president of Guangdong Fashion Designers Association and famous dress designer), Li Xiaoyan (winner of “Top Award”, the highest honor of fashion designers in China), Mr. Colin Robert Sloan Renfrew (vice president of Manchester Metropolitan University in UK and dean of Hollins School), Mr. Denis Andre Pierre Barricault (lecturer of Paris International Fashion School in Paris), and Ms. Natalia Mizonova (professor and dean of Clothing Department of Ivanov Textile University in Russia).

When the “Humen Cup” Contest came to an end, the judges sang high praise for it. Mr. Liu Yang said that the competing works in this year were more mature than those in previous years, and the players were able to focus on the theme of “Limitless Innovation” and closely grasp the current international fashion trend in terms of technique and fabric. He also suggested that the competitors could make some breakthroughs in color in the future.

A New Season of the Occupational Skill Contest Focusing on Talents of Fashion Design Started by Guangdong TV, Where Mr. Liu Yang Acts as Mentor of the Players

The Occupational Skill Contest, the first large-scale occupational skill true man show in China, is jointly organized by Guangdong Radio and TV Station and Guangdong Human Resource and Social Security Administration. This Program is devoted to provide a platform for the working people in various industries to show themselves, and integrates specialty and entertainment into a whole. Two seasons of this Program have been presented on Guangdong TV, which helped to accumulate a good foundation of audience. Under the background of mass entrepreneurship and innovation, this Program returns in 2015 with great momentum. This season of the Program focuses on talents of fashion design, and may raise a tide of fashion design in Guangdong, the No. 1 province of clothing export in China and a province where strong design forces are gathered.  

On November 16, 2015, the first recording of the new season of the Occupational Skill Contest Focusing on Talents of Fashion Design was started. Liu Yang and Ji Wenbo, two leaders in fashion design in China, and Meng Guangmei, a fashion star, formed a strong team of mentors. Eight players were recruited by means of draft to compete with each other. This program will develop the new generation of idol fashion designers in China, witness the grand transformation from “made in China” to “created in China”, witness the great development trend of Chinese brands and Chinese design, and communicate the encouraging concept of “skills change destiny and help to realize individual ideals” to the public.

According to the rules of this contest, the representative works of the players will be showed by models, and the three mentors will make appraisal during the fashion show and decide whether to turn on the light indicating appreciation. The players for which at least two lights are turned on will get an opportunity of interview on the stage, and others will be directly eliminated. After completion of a round of on-stage interview, the mentors will decide again whether to turn on their lights. At this time, only a player for which all the three lights are turned on can receive the notice of promotion and become one of the eight trainees of the master’s training course of this Program. Then these eight trainees will participate in seven training classes planned aboratively by Liu Yang and Ji Wenbo, and receive guidance directly from the fashion masters.

Mr. Liu Yang expressed that it was meaningful to attract the attention of more people to fashion designers by means of such a true man show program, and he would subsequently guide the trainees in learning the fashion culture and improving their design ability, so as to foster more design talents and make contributions to the fashion industry in China.

Liu Yang Wins the “Southern Forces – 2015 Honorary Award for Meritorious Figures in the Fashion Industries of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao”

On the evening of November 3, 2015, the “Southern Forces – 2015 Fashion Pageant of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao” was held ceremoniously in Zhujiang International Textile Mart. Sponsored by Guangdong’s Association for Promotion of Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Macao International Fashion Federation and jointly undertaken by Fashion Brand Committee of Guangdong’s Association for Promotion of Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao, China Chamber of Commerce of Clothing in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and Guangdong Clothing Culture Promotion Association, the “Southern Forces – 2015 Fashion Pageant of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao” received supports from over 120 brands and many designers from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

Totally over 500 people, including leaders and representatives from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, representatives of fashion brand enterprises in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, excellent designers and representatives of authoritative media in the fashion field participated in this pageant. Under the background of agglomeration of the fashion industry, this pageant gathered the most influential southern forces in the field of fashion in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, including outstanding enterprises, brands and industrial leaders as well as excellent designers that have made great contributions to the development of the fashion industry, the progresses of enterprises, the growth of brands and the innovation of modes in these three places, and commended them by means of awards.

On that evening, the organizing committee of this pageant granted the “Southern Forces – 2015 Honorary Award for Meritorious Figures in the Fashion Industries of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao” to Mr. Liu Yang for his outstanding contribution to the communication and cooperation of fashion brands in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and the development of the new integrated industrial layout in these years. According to Mr. Liu Yang, it was his inescapable responsibility to promote the development of the fashion industry in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao as an industrial leader. And he would make more efforts to make greater achievements in the future!
